Privacy Policy

Effective date: February 15, 2026

The short version: The MarkBridge Chrome extension does not collect, store, or transmit any of your data to external servers. All document processing happens entirely within your browser. Our website only collects personal information if you voluntarily submit it through the contact form.

1. What MarkBridge Does

MarkBridge is a Chrome browser extension that converts Confluence wiki pages into Markdown format. When you click "Convert to Markdown," the extension:

  • Reads the content of the currently active Confluence page in your browser tab
  • Processes and converts the HTML content to Markdown locally within your browser
  • Displays the converted Markdown in the extension popup
  • Allows you to copy the result to your clipboard or download it as a file

2. Data We Collect

Chrome Extension: The MarkBridge extension does not collect any personal information, usage data, or page content. Specifically:

  • No personal information — The extension does not collect your name, email, IP address, or any identifiers
  • No page content — The content of your Confluence pages is never sent to any server. All conversion happens in your browser
  • No usage tracking — We do not track which pages you convert, how often you use the extension, or any behavioral data on external servers
  • No cookies or fingerprinting — We do not use cookies, web beacons, or browser fingerprinting

Website Contact Form: If you choose to contact us through the form on our website, we collect the following information that you voluntarily provide:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • The subject you select
  • Your message content

This information is used solely to respond to your inquiry. Contact form submissions are processed and stored by Netlify, our website hosting provider, in accordance with their privacy policy. We do not use this data for marketing, sell it to third parties, or retain it beyond what is necessary to address your request.

3. Local Storage

MarkBridge stores a small amount of anonymous usage data locally on your device using Chrome's chrome.storage.local API. This data includes:

  • A count of how many pages you have converted (displayed as "X pages converted" in the extension popup)
  • Basic feature usage counters (e.g., how many times you used copy vs. download)

This data never leaves your device. It is stored solely for your convenience (to show you your usage stats) and is not transmitted anywhere. You can clear this data at any time through Chrome's extension settings.

4. Permissions

MarkBridge requests the following Chrome extension permissions:

  • activeTab — Allows the extension to access the content of the tab you are currently viewing, only when you click the extension icon. This is required to read the Confluence page content for conversion.
  • scripting — Allows the extension to inject a content script into Confluence pages to extract and preprocess the page content for conversion.
  • storage — Allows the extension to store your local usage counters (conversion count) on your device.

These are the minimum permissions required for the extension to function. We do not request access to browsing history, bookmarks, or any other browser data.

5. Third-Party Services

Chrome Extension: The extension does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or data processing services. It makes zero external network requests during normal operation.

The only network activity occurs if you enable the "Embed images inline" option — in that case, the extension fetches images from the Confluence page itself (the same server you are already viewing) to embed them in the Markdown output. These requests use your existing browser session and no data is sent to MarkBridge or any third party.

Website: Our website is hosted on Netlify. Contact form submissions are processed through Netlify Forms. We do not use any analytics, advertising, or tracking services on the website.

6. Data Security

Your Confluence content stays in your browser at all times. The converted Markdown output exists only in your browser's memory and in any file you choose to download or clipboard content you choose to paste.

Information submitted through the website contact form is transmitted securely over HTTPS and stored by Netlify in accordance with their security practices.

7. Children's Privacy

MarkBridge does not collect any personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
